According to Elizabeth Stanton men have an overwhelming power over women. There are many situations in which she explains that women have been undone, or degraded by men. Many of these rights that the women are deprived of have to deal with voting rights, property rights, possession rights and even as bad as citizen rights. Women were very much discriminated against and truly looked down upon. Men left women without representation in the government, they were not allowed to vote, and they were oppressed. As well if a woman is married then she has been striped of her property rights as well as her wages that she earns. There are many more examples that go on of all this discrimination, but it is truly disappointing and sad how because of all these limitations to women it therefore made them totally dependent on their husbands and or men. It was like they could not do anything for themselves or even think for them selves for that matter because men also had the power to deny women the right to go to school as colleges were closed against them. One line that really stood out and caught my attention was the fact that “He has endeavored, in every way that he could, to destroy her confidence in her own powers, to lessen her self-respect, and to make her willing to lead a dependent and abject life” (Stanton 166). If this is not enough to have power over women I don’t know what is. In order to make a women feel like she is worthless and just put on this earth almost in a sense to be like a man’s accessories is discusting. It really seems to me that women must have served no purpose in the world at this time and that her lives, thoughts and feelings were not important.

I really agree with you and your blog. Men might as well had their wives as slaves. Women could do NOTHING! Times have changed but some of those ways still exist in todays time.
I somewhat agree with you about it being wrong how women were treated in those time, but i have to say that in those time women where represented by there husband and if she had something to say to the community she told here husband and then he tell them what she wanted him to tell them.
You completely understood what she was explaining. I agree with everything pretty much. Nice job.
Women were truly opressed in past times, but its up to the women of today to empower themseleves and ensure that history doesnt repeat itself
I completely agree with what you had to say and also believe that the women at that time had no value they were treated as maids and had few if any rights.
